Ashes First Test Day 1, November 21, 2025, Optus Arena, Perth

Well what a day! initially I had a little difficulty finding my seat (the stewards hired for the day didn't know the ground; they would be perfectly qualified to get a job at Edgbaston!). However I made it in time for the first ball and when Zac Crawley was out for 0 in the first over quickly followed by Joe Root  also for 0, it felt like the Ashes were gone, but we've skittled Australia for 50 less runs than we got ( with admittedly just one wicket left to get, but we can make short work of that tomorrow). So the match is in a fascinating place, with the half of the game's innings complete (19 wickets down out of 40) in the first  day, this match will not last 5 days and there will be a result. Whoever wins it sets up the rest of the series nicely. So what to do in any free time? Well, and this is what's great about international cricket, I met up with Margaret and Ron who live in Perth, and who I met at Edgbaston during Ashes '23, I'm hoping to see them again properly once this Test is done

Below is a picture of the opening ceremony, a view from inside the ground and a short video of some action. It's difficult to do the day justice, but I hope you get the idea.

  2. What a day… Glad you’re enjoying! Tom and I are in the Blue Mountains watching it! I did the usual ‘Oh, well that’s it then’ after Crawley went. Shows what I know 🤦‍♂️ We’re living through special times watching Starc and Stokes live… Sam

    1. Hi Sam - good to hear from you. I wondered why Tom was so clued up, but if he's with you that explains it!
