Visit to Kangaroo Island
What are the odds of two statisticians from the same department at the University of Warwick independently booking themselves on the same trip to Kangaroo Island with the same itinerary? Well pretty low but that is what happened today! I got on the bus at my hotel to go to the ferry terminal to be met by my colleague Prof Murray Pollock (he is at Newcastle university now, having left Warwick a couple of years ago, but still).
Two random statisticians from the University of Warwick meeting in a totally random place
In any event Kangaroo island is pretty amazing - we saw Koala, Kangaroos, Sealions, Wedge-tail eagles all in the wild.
Seeing the seals on the beach was pretty awesome they have to sleep for 3 days after hunting for food at the bottom of the ocean. Just making it back is an achievement because they are the choice first course of a Great White
This little fella was hungry and looking for his mom...
... and he found her.
The choice first course of Kangaroos is seeds and nuts, but fortunately not human digits; they are very gentle
Koalas only eat Eucalyptus (and then only about 6 types), but I was fresh out
A few of snaps of the scenery

I really can’t believe you met up with an old colleague!!
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping one of you will come up with the. answer as to “what are the odds?”
If you pair can’t do it - nobody can!!
What time did you get back from Kangaroo Island?
ReplyDeleteHave you gone back to Adelaide and if so for how long?
When do you move on to Brisbane?
What a great trip! Astounding that you bumped into an ex colleague and then all those ‘locals’!
ReplyDeleteSorry - just came up as anonymous! 🤷♂️
ReplyDeleteNice pics dad!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're looking at my Blog! I know cousin Jack has dipped in. Not sure about anyone else family wise. You might have to show Grandma! How are Remy and Zara? xx
DeleteThat Koala looks way bigger than I expected them to be, or is it just the camera angle?
