Fourth Test, Day 2, MCG A Test victory in Australia!

Well who would've thought it? Most of us thought that Australia would bat all day today and then bowl us out tomorrow.

I know most folks have snapped pics of the Dennis Lillee and Shane Warne Statues outside the ground, but these are my snaps for what they're worth

At the pre-match CATO event downtown this morning both Alistair Cook and Ricky Ponting, both remarked that the grass on the pitch was too long at 10mm and so disrupted the balance between bat and ball. I thought that compere , said it could be 2-1 after todayDamien Fleming's sheep could maybe be put  to work to take off a top layer.

As an aside, I thought Cook was a much better raconteur/story teller, than he is commentator. At least Jonathan Agnew who appeared alongside Michael Hussey said it could be 3-1 after today, but I'm not sure he meant it.

Michael Hussey looking incredulous as Aggers says 'maybe it will be a  3-2 series'

Of course one victory doesn't alter the fact that this tour has not been the success that it was meant to be. And we have beaten an Australian side without Cummins and Lyon, but still its an historic victory (first Test win in Australia for 15 years) and I'm sure for those of us that are here we are happy we witnessed it.

As a Bear, I was pleased that Bethell did well, not batting at #3, and at least Carse delivered some half decent figures, but the bowling credits go to Tongue (7 wickets in the match) and Stokes who always takes breakthrough wickets

  1. I’ve just watched the highlights. England actually performed! Bowled decently, took some excellent catches and played some great strokes! Must’ve been an excellent atmosphere at the end. 👏👏👏
