Ian Dutton's kitchen sink drama

Guest blog (by Ian Dutton)

Before he left the group for Cairns to watch some proper cricket, Ian wanted to share a story about  a sink drainer, so here it is...

One of my closest friends (read on, maybe an ex friend now? - ed) lives in KL (that's Kuala Lumpur, not King's Lynn - ed) and was telling me about his elderly parent's dish drainer  dilemma, namely the dish drainer they have had at home for many years has drained its last dish.    I have to be honest. I wasn’t paying a great deal of attention at the time until he mentioned the only place in the world that sold a replacement dish  drainer of the type he specifically wanted for his parents was in Brisbane. The only place in the world…… ….?
Next thing you know he is suggesting that I combine my trip to the Ashes with a trip to a Discount Bathroom store to collect one of two remaining dish drainers as the model required, remaining anywhere in the world.
Obviously he knew I was coming to Brisbane for the second test however I was more than a little curious at his suggestion and have to admit I hoped he’d overlook the likelihood of dragging me across Brisbane looking to buy a dish drainer which I’m certain will be easily available on Amazon UK?
He didn’t forget, bless him and I got a WhatsApp message a couple of days ago with the order number and address of Brisbane Discount Taps and Kitchens! He had paid $20 for the Rolls-Royce of kitchen drainers and suggested I wouldn’t mind trekking out of town to pick it up. Of course I was very very very happy to oblige? That’s not the end of my “krypton factor like test”.  I had to return to the UK with it in one piece and mail it anonymously to his parents who lived in Northampton and who would be more than delighted with said dish drainer  from Brisbane.
Anyway, long story short, part one of the mission accomplished. A $20 dish drainer has been secured via a $130 return journey taxi ride. đŸ˜³. I know what you’re thinking……
Part 2 yet to be completed - namely safe return of the worlds most expensive dish drainer to England and part 3 will be the fragile wrapping and careful packing and posting said world’s most expensive dish drainers to Northampton when I return in the New Year.
Watch this space………….
In the meantime, I attach  an image of said dish drainers which I feel ought to be gold plated ?
