The day before the Test + a pilgrimage to the RA Fisher memorial

The first thing I did today was to visit St Peter's cathedral just by the Oval with Martin and Jim. I wanted to visit the memorial plaque to probably the greatest statistician who ever lived, R.A. Fisher. As well as being a statistician he was also a geneticist who solved amongst other things the sex ratio problem (ie why are the sexes split 50:50, even in populations with alpha males). The cathedral guide book says about Fisher

"A brilliant scientist especially in the fields of statistics and genetics.Spent most of his working life at universities in the UK, but spent his last years in SA - living at St Mark's College, lecturing at the university in genetics and statistics producing numerous scientific papers and advising CSIRO. His ashes (see what I did there - ed) are in the cathdral at the outer end of the pew where he used to sit and which was given in his memory by his family".

He is probably the greatest scientist that no-one has heard of. His Wikipedia entry is here.

After a quick rest for tea and refreshment we sat outside the ground and Joe Root came along, we waited a while for other players but none appeared.

Finally, but really firstly, my daughter who lived in Bondi until a couple of months ago posted this picture on her Instagram. I think it speaks for itself.
